Copy style from another template
Copy the fonts, colors and background of one template onto another in a few clicks, so every document your store sends — invoice, packing slip, refund, quote — looks like it belongs to the same brand.
Overview
Copy style lives in the Design panel of every template. Pick a source template, check what will change, and apply. Only design settings are copied — your content, notes and fields stay exactly as they are.
How to use
Step 1: Open the Design panel
Go to Templates, open the template you want to restyle, then click Design. The Copy style card sits at the top of the panel. Click Browse templates.
Step 2: Choose a source template
In the modal:
- Template type — pick the document type of the template you want to copy from.
- Source template — pick the template. Your default template for each type is marked (default).
The template you are editing is not in the list.
Step 3: Review the changes
After a short loading, the table What will change on (followed by your template's name) lists only the settings that differ, with the Now and After copy values side by side. If both templates already look the same, the app tells you and the Apply style button stays disabled.
Step 4: Apply and save
- Click Apply style. When it finishes, you see the message Style applied.
- Check the preview — the Design panel and the document now use the new style.
- Click Save to keep the changes, or Discard to go back to the previous style.
Nothing is saved until you click Save.
What gets copied
| Copied | Not copied |
|---|---|
| Font | Section content and fields |
| Font size (body, subheading, heading) | Footer note and thank-you message |
| Primary color, background color, text color | Custom Liquid and CSS |
| Illustration | |
| Background logo (on/off, image, size, fade) | |
| Logo size |
Your shop logo and labels are already shared across all templates, so they don't need to be copied.
Special cases
- POS templates — when the source or the target is a POS receipt, only fonts, font sizes and logo size are copied.
- Illustration — copied only between templates with the same layout. If it doesn't fit, the modal shows a note and copies everything else.
- Background logo — not copied to templates that never print one, such as Unpaid and Order statement.
- "Template default" colors — if a color on the source is set to Template default, the target uses its own design's default color. The result can look different between two designs.
Good to know
- One template at a time. Copy style updates only the template you are editing. To match your whole set (Invoice, Packing slip, Refund, Pro forma, Credit note, Quote), repeat the steps in each template.
- Save the source first. The style is taken from what was last saved on the source template. Save your source template before you copy from it.
- Nothing to change? If both templates already look the same, you see a message and Apply style stays disabled.
The copy is one-time. If you edit the source template later, the change won't carry over — copy the style again.
Stores using the Theme menu
If your editor has a Theme menu, loading a theme changes the primary color, and on some themes also the font or illustration. Whichever you do last wins:
- Apply style, then Load theme — the theme replaces the primary color (and the font or illustration, if the theme sets them).
- Load theme, then Apply style — all copied settings are kept on top of the new theme's layout.
To get both, load the theme first, then copy the style.
Tips
- Style one template the way you like it, then copy it to the rest of your document types for a consistent brand.
- Review the Now / After copy table before applying — it's the quickest way to spot an unwanted change.
- Changed your mind before saving? Click Discard — note that it drops every unsaved change on the template, not only the copied style.
